THE SCENE Yasser Ali waxes eloquently about gelato, transposing it to poetry. “It’s my hobby,” he grins, as he samples the melon sorbet to see if everything’s perfect. “The finest infusion of art and science”, says Yasser, as we discuss the finer points of this frozen dessert. Amore is a craftsmanship between partners Yasser Ali, Nayyer Hussain and veteran Italian Chef Costanzo Malatto, whose chocolate concoctions have won the highest accolades in gelato history.
The partners are obsessed with quality control, and use only the freshest, most authentic ingredients, with absolutely no synthetic additives.
Amore unequivocally serves the best chocolate gelatos in Bombay. Belgian chocolate, Ferrero Rocher and After Eight bits swirl inside a divine molten base, even as they slide down your throat. Don’t be surprised if you see empty tubs of Tiramisu and Berry Cheesecake at night. Even their sorbets are beautiful, artistic and perfect. As we chat about the intricacies of making the perfect gelato, the melon sorbet is smothered into its container, and it is absolutely divine!
The staff encourages you to sample, says Yasser, and experiment with your taste buds. If you wish to suggest a flavour, they may take you up on the challenge of crafting it! The variety at this gelataria is what keeps the interest levels going. Flavours change at the turn of day and seasonal variations are quirky and delicious.So, maybe it’s slightly more expensive than ice cream and the other gelatos in the market. (Rs. 45 – 60 for a small scoop) And there’s very little seating at the gelataria. But for a few bucks extra, you get a scoop that goes on and on and on.

THE VERDICT Arguably, Amore serves the most silken, divine gelato in Bombay. The benchmark has been set for other gelatarias that are cropping up all over the city.
